The Feldenkrais Method is a practice designed to build awareness, sensory intelligence, and re-wire patterns to learn to move with more ease, fluidity, and skill.

The methodology was founded by Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais, an Israeli physicist and Judo teacher. A severe knee injury, and poor prognosis for recovery, led Feldenkrais to delve into a study of [human movement and our capacity for learning and change]. His work combines [neuroscience, physics, and martial arts principles] to somatic awareness.

The methodology utilizes “Awareness Through Movement” lessons, taught verbally to an individual or group as well as “functional integration” hands on body work.

Applications for Feldenkrais include:

  • Reducing pain and changing movement habits leading to or because of injury 

  • Improving movement range and skill for dance and sports performance 

  • Shifting perception and opening pathways to creativity 

  • Developing a somatic based mindfulness practice
